WELLSVILLE - Michael R. Crowley, 57, of 196 E. Dyke St., passed away Saturday (Nov. 3, 2012) at home following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1955, in Cuba, he was a son of Robert T. and Mary Congdon Crowley.
Mike was a member of Allegany County ARC system since early chilhood. His parents were one of the five founding families of Allegany County ARC. He was an avid sports lover, and, in his younger years, he enjoyed playing catch with his brothers and playing basketball in the driveway. He participated in the Allegany County Special Olympics
for many years, winning most of the track and field events.
Mike loved watching the "Three Stooges," and one of his favorite pastimes was writing "Three Stooges" jokes. He kept notebooks full of his stories and was proud to show them to family and friends. He also filled many albums full of photos that he had taken with his Polaroid cameras. For many years, he loved to cook his own cheeseburgers with onions, his favorite food, and he began every family visit with a Pepsi and a bowl of potato chips.
Mike had a keen mind for remembering dates, names of players on any sports team, what position they played and what the score was for any event. He could also tell you who was at any family dinner, including family dogs, and what was was served.
He liked betting 50 cents on games but loved collecting on his bets even more! His television was always turned to an ESPN channel, and he continued to read the sports section of the newspaper every day. Mike enjoyed attending all sporting events, but his favorites were St. Bonaventure men's basketball, the Buffalo Sabres and, at the top of his list, the Green Bay Packers. The Packers have lost their greatest fan.
Mike was a member of St. Mary's Church of Bolivar.
Surviving are three sisters, Norene (Thomas) Ferris of Bolivar, Margaret (William) Johnston of Cuba and Monica (Dan) Corwin of Orchard Park; three brothers, Mark Crowley of Eustis, Fla., Rich (Judy) Crowley of Olean and Dan (Heidi) Crowley of Bolivar.; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
