Ronald J. Chapman Sr.(1939-2013)

RUSHFORD - Ronald J. Chapman, Sr., 74, of 9032 Main St., passed away unexpectedly Monday (Dec. 2, 2013), at home.

Born on Feb. 8, 1939, in Cadiz, he was a son of Charles and Tessie Deveraux Chapman. On July 10, 1970, in Salamanca Baptist Church, he married Marilynn M. Lundergann, who predeceased him Dec. 31, 2009.

Ron attended Belfast Central School. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from May 21, 1956, until May 28, 1958. He was a private first class automotive repairman at the time of his discharge. He was always proud of his military service and being a veteran.

Mr. Chapman worked in construction for many years, was the maintenance director for Bradford Hospital for a number of years, and retired from Corrpro Corporation in Connors, Ga., where he had been a field technician working alongside his wife. He loved refurbishing and repairing old Farmall tractors, and just recently finished the restoration of a Model T that he built from scratch. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a sports fanatic. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and hunting with his friends on Jackson Hill.

Surviving are four sons, David C. Chapman of Bradford, Pa., Timothy J. (Lisa) Chapman of Cuba, Ronald J. Chapman Jr. of Pfligerville, Texas, James ""Jim"" L. Chapman of Machias; a daughter, Beth (Kevin) Rhodes of Groveland; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth DeRock of Olean, Abbie Cleveland of Arcade; his loving dog, Xena; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Alfred, Wayne and Raymond Chapman; a sister, Nellie Rodgers; and his lifelong friend, Paul Shaller Sr.

Friends were received Friday and this morning (Dec. 7, 2013), at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba, with funeral services at 11 a.m. today. The Rev. Jonathan D. Ward, pastor of North Park Wesleyan Church, Cuba will officiate. Burial will be in White Cemetery, Rushford.
