COUDERSPORT, Pa. - Rosemary Anne "Tante" Wells passed away Thursday (April 10, 2014) in Dansville.
She was born Aug. 15, 1944. She loved her childhood, particularly the Radio Kids show on WFRM. She developed her love of music in her youth.
She graduated from the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, where she was a member of the choir and madrigal, and loved her years there. She attended McMurray College. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a master's degree in music theory and a second master's degree in music composition.
Rosemary went to Europe in 1969, and spent six years there before returning to Coudersport.
She was active in Trout Unlimited, North Country Singers and Second Chances. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Coudersport, where she sang in the choir, served as lay reader and on the altar guild, and frequently played the piano and organ. Her church was a wonderful family to her.
She was always running errands for herself and others, and could be seen all over town no matter the weather. She was always seen taking photos along her journey.
Rosemary loved spending her summers at Cuba Lake. She loved boating, swimming and fishing. She maintained friendships with many childhood friends and enjoyed their company.
Rosemary had many medical problems throughout her life. She was frequently said to be down and out but she always battled back. Rosemary had a most positive will power and courage.
She will be remembered as a kind, gentle woman who could not do enough for others. She is happily playing J. S. Bach in heaven now.
Rosemary was the daughter of the Hon. Walter P. Wells and Anne Mulligan Wells, who both preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brothers, John (Donna) Wells and Chris (Denise) Wells; her sister, Tricia (Allan) Kapteina; cousins, Margot Schutt Backas and Nancy Schutt Cantwell; nieces; a nephew; and grand-nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (May 10, 2014) at the Christ Episcopal Church of Coudersport, with the Rev. Janis Yskamp officiating. Music selections will be offered by North Country Voices, with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
