FRIENDSHIP - Roy E. Warner, 70, of 4460 Route 275 Lot 12, passed away Friday (Oct. 25, 2013) at Bath Veterans Administration Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 5, 1943, in Wellsville, he was the son of Jesse and Josephine Baxter Warner. On June 12, 1964, in Obi, he married the former Marcia Lorrow, who survives.

Roy had grown up in the Friendship area and attended Friendship Central School. After his schooling he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War from Jan. 18, 1963, to Dec. 28, 1968, when he was honorably discharged. After his military service he was employed by several firms including Clark Bros. in Olean and Friendship Diaries. Later he drove truck for S.J. Groves Co. helping build Interstate 86 in the Southern Tier. For many years he drove truck over the road for firms including Hales Trucking in Friendship. In May 1995, he and his wife moved to Florida where he drove truck for Lykes Pasco Co. in Lake Hamilton, Fla., hauling fresh fruit in the area. Later he worked for Hunt Bros. in Lake Whales, Fla., retiring in 2005. After his retirement he returned to the Friendship area where he became a security guard for Dresser-Rand in Wellsville.

Roy had his own band named the "Country Raiders", and enjoyed playing their music in the area. He was a long-time member of the Friendship American Legion Post No. 1168.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Marcia, are a son Jesse E. (Deb Kane) Warner of Friendship; three daughters, Peggy Sue (Ray) Thompson of Florida, Rebecca J. (Kirk Willow) Warner of Whitesville and Patricia J. (Kim Parker) Thompson of Ault, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Warner of Friendship; two sisters, Barbara (Earl) Lamb of Friendship and Debora (Jim) Murphy of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Gary.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship, where funeral and committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 30, 2013). The Rev. Duane Broadwell, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church of Friendship, will officiate. Burial will be in Bath VA National Veterans Cemetery.
