OLEAN - Russell J. Rossingnol, of 591 Martha Ave. passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (April 1, 2014), at the Olean General Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1956, in Fort Kent, Maine, he was the son of William and Irene Gideon Rossignol. On July 10, 1974, in Olean, he married Phyllis E. Bean, who survives.
Mr. Rossingnol was a lifelong resident of Olean, and served with the U.S. Air Force from 1973 to 1974 during the Vietnam War. He worked at the former AVX Ceramics, now Olean Advanced Products in Olean for more than 20 years. He then was employed as manager of R&R Convenience in East Olean and more recently worked as a security guard for the Seneca Allegany Casino for five years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working outdoors taking care of his property. He most enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Renee Rossingnol Weakfall of Olean and Raquel Rossingnol of Portland, Tenn.; a son, Scott Rossingnol of Carpentersville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Renette Wagner Bedard (the late Joseph Wagner), Marilyn James of Santa Ana, Calif., and Ruth (Pete Vaughn) Fitch of Olean; a brother, Rudy (Arvella) Rossignol of Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Stella Gideon; and two brothers, Reynold Rossignol and Ronald Gideon.
Friends will be received from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday (April 5, 2014) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean, at which time funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Tyrone Hall, pastor of Fresh Joy Ministries in Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor.
