Bert F. Pepper (1927 - 2013)

FRANKLINVILLE - Bert F. Pepper Jr., of Bear Creek Road, passed away peacefully Saturday (May 3, 2013) at the Pines in Machias following a long illness.
Born Jan. 9, 1927, in Hinsdale, he was a son of Bert F. Pepper Sr. and Oral Chamberlain. On Oct. 18, 1945, in Machias, he married Gene Sarah Woodruff, who died March 10, 2005.
Mr. Pepper was a 1943 Graduate of Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville. A dairy farmer until 1953, he was then employed by C.A. Phillips Farm Machinery and GLF (Away) of Franklinville. He worked as a night watchman at the Ontario Knife Co. in Franklinville for 19 years, and Motorola Inc. in Arcade for four years. Self-employed since 1974, he owned and operated Blue Berry Hill Farm, along with his beloved Gene, on Bear Creek Road until 1987.
He attended First Christian Church in Machias. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars and tractors. He was a member of the Antique Car Club and Model A Ford Club of America. Mr. Pepper enjoyed friends, photography and traveling.
Surviving is a son, Bradley (Linda Fish) Pepper of Machias; a daughter, Rosalita Reilly of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Knight of Franklinville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond L. Pepper.
Friends may gather with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville, where his funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (May 9, 2013) with the Rev. Ross Thompson, pastor of the First Christian Church of Machias, officiating. Burial will follow in Five Mile Cemetery in Allegany.
