PORTVILLE - Charles M. O'Connor passed away Friday (April 4, 2014), at his home surrounded by his family.

Born Aug. 21, 1952, in Olean, he was the son of James and Ardeth Walter O'Connor. On June 16, 1973, in Olean, he married the former Patricia A. Balcerzak, who passed away Nov. 2, 2002.
Charlie was a graduate of Portville Central School, Class of 1970, and attended Alfred State College and Ashland University. He was employed as an advertising salesman at the Olean Times Herald for many years. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and the Portville Lions Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and New York Yankee Fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth (Oscar) Gaines, Jr. of Olean, and Katherine O'Connor of New York, N.Y.; his father, James O'Connor of Portville; a sister, Barbara O'Connor of Los Lunas, N.M.; a sister-in-law, Judie Balcerzak of New York, N.Y.; and a niece, Jennifer (Tim) Muller of Charleston, S.C., a brother-in-law, Butch Balcerzak and mother-in-law, Sophie Balcerzak, both of Olean.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia; mother, Ardeth O'Connor; and father-in-law, Walter Balcerzak Sr.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, (April 8, 2014), at Sacred Heart Oratory in Portville. Father Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville. A scripture wake service will be held in the funeral home Monday evening.
