WESTONS MILLS – Frank L. Steffen Sr. passed away Sunday (May 19, 2013) at Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness.

Born Nov. 21, 1928, in Hagerstown, Md., he was a son of the late William Downs Steffen and Loretta Gray Steffen Grinolds.
On Nov. 20, 1948, he married the former Jessie Rzeszutek, who passed away in 1952. Later, on April 11, 1953, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., he married Bernadine A. Emerick, who passed away Oct. 14, 1997.
Frank attended School Four and Olean High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1949 and in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was employed at the Olean Tile Co., retiring in 1992 after 44 years of service.
He was a life member and past commander of the Portville American Legion Post 814, the VFW of Olean 1619, F.O.E. 616, LOOM 119 and Olean Elks Lodge 491; a life member of the St. Stephen's Club; a member of the Pulaski Club and a past member of the Kinney Hose Co., Westons Mills. Frank enjoyed round and square dancing and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving are three sons, Frank L. (Frances) Steffen Jr. of Olean, William J. Steffen of Westons Mills and Michael J. Steffen of Allegany; two daughters, Katherine E. Steffen of North Olmsted, Ohio, and Robin A. Peters of Allegany; eight grandchildren; his companion, Linda Troutman; two nephews, John and Edward; and a niece, Loretta.
In addition to his wives, he was predeceased by a brother, John Steffen.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial Thursday (May 23, 2013) at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Oratory, Portville. Father Ronald Mierzwa of Ellicottville will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure, Allegany.
