Guy H. Harrison Sr. (1922 - 2013)

SALAMANCA - Mr. Guy H. Harrison Sr., 91, of Jefferson Street, died Monday evening (Nov. 4, 2013) at his home.
Born on May 3, 1922, in Salamanca, he was a son of the late Victor and Lila Millhollen Harrison. He was married July 22, 1984, in Kill Buck to the former Cheryl Elwell, who survives. He was predeceased by his first wife, Violet Frank Harrison, in 1983.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 101st Airborne "Screamin' Eagles" 325th Glider infantry, where he participated in the Normandy D-Day invasion. Earning the rank of corporal, he served in the European Theater throughout World War II. He was awarded three bronze service stars and two bronze arrowhead devices.
Mr. Harrison was employed as a carman with B&O Railroad in Salamanca for 40 years, retiring in 1982.
He faithfully served in many capacities in his church, Valley Christian Assembly. Mr. Harrison enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, camping and spending time with his family. He also was an avid bowler.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Sally (Dennis) Wujastyk of Salamanca and Angelina (Joshua) Creed of Salamanca; two sons, Guy (Kim) Harrison Jr. of Kill Buck and Charles (Melissa) Harrison of Salamanca; two granddaughters, Amanda (Fred) Witt of Great Valley and Alyssa Harrison of Kill Buck; four grandsons, Jeffrey (Lou) Harrison of Salamanca, Brett (Susan) Harrison of California, Gregory (Amy Emborsky) Wujastyk of Great Valley and Joshua Harrison of Kill Buck; three sisters, Thelma Meyers of Kill Buck, Dorothy Jacoby of Great Valley and Betty Terry of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles "Chuck" Harrison, Robert Harrison and Victor Harrison.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Nov. 8, 2013) in the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Elwell of the Valley Christian Assembly Church, officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post No. 535 and Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post No. 5296.
