ALLEGANY - Harry R. McGavisk, 90, of 2216 St. Christopher Drive, passed away Thursday (Dec. 6, 2018) at Olean General Hospital.

Born April 19, 1928, in Olean, he was the son of Harry Henry and Emma Karnuth McGavisk. On Aug. 27, 1955, in Olean, he married Mary B. Ballack, who predeceased him May 6, 2014.

Mr. McGavisk was a graduate of Olean High School.

He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served from 1946 to 1947. After graduating in 1953, from the University of Buffalo, he was employed as an industrial arts teacher for Olean Junior High School, until his retirement in 1984.

Surviving are a son, Ian (Page) McGavisk of Glyndon, Md.; a daughter, Kathleen (Frank) Maduri of Olean; three grandchildren, Emily and Olivia, both of Baltimore, Md. and Betsy of Burlington, Vt.; a brother, Vincent (Mary Ann) McGavisk of Dansville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday (Dec. 10, 2018) at St. Bonaventure Church. A memorial mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. in St. Bonaventure Church. The Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
