BELFAST - Herbert William "Sonny" Howe II, 80, of 7635 Route 19, passed away Friday (Sept. 27, 2013) at home following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 15, 1932, in Kane, Pa., he was the son of Herbert William and Anna Grassia Howe I. He was the lifelong companion of Jean Snyder.
Sonny grew up in Kane, and while a youngster moved with his family to Buffalo. He attended schools both in Kane and Buffalo.
He became a commercial house painter in Buffalo for a few years, then for several years drove trucks for George W. Brown Trucking in Buffalo. Starting a new career, for many years he bought houses, remodeled them and sold them, retiring in 1982.
Sonny was devoted to his family, especially Jean, his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He enjoyed teaching them to do things the right way and being self-reliant.
Surviving in addition to his companion Jean are two daughters, Constance (Gregory) Archambault of Cheektowaga and Diane (Richard) Feeney of Buffalo; three sons; Herbert W. (Tara) Howe III of Belfast, Lance C. (Valerie) Snyder of Lancaster and David R. Snyder of Florida; fifteen grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Anna Marie (Alvah) Eggert of Sloan and Carol (Ronald) Norton of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Rosemarie Howe; two brothers, Robert Howe and Charles Howe; two sisters, Shirley Starr and Patricia Kowalkowski; and a great-granddaughter, Cassandra Chandler.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 5, 2013) at the Belfast Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert J. Mackmer, pastor, will officiate.
