OLEAN - Jack A. Vanschaick, 848 Prince St., Olean, passed away Saturday (April 12, 2014), in the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Born Nov. 3, 1935, in Knoxville, Pa., he was the son of the late Leon and Gretchen Bennett Vanschaick. On May 27, 1961, in Olean, he married the former Rae Louise Bush, who survives.
Jack was a graduate of West Seneca High School, and attended Alfred University. A Korean War veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Tutuila, and was stationed at Norfolk, Va. He was employed at the Olean Tile Company, and at Cummins Engine at Jamestown. He was a member of the Enchanted Mountain Treasure Club. An avid sportsman, Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, his garden and loved to read. Jack loved his wife, children, grandson and spending time with them.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pamela Stillman of Allegany; a son, Mark Vanschaick of Olean; a grandson, Michael; a brother, Theodore Vanschaick of Cuba; a sister, Diane (Joseph) Malovich of Stafford; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Vanschaick of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Robert Vanschaick.
At Jack's request, funeral and committal services will be private at the Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 E. State St. Olean at 1 p.m. Monday (April 14, 2014). Pastor Bryan Garrett of Olean Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
