CUBA - Jo Ann Farrell, of 4681 Rt. 305, passed away peacefully Friday (Sept. 20, 2013) at Olean General Hospital from complications associated her long and courageous battle with diabetes. She was in the company of her husband and daughter.

Born on Sept. 22, 1949, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Kenneth M. and Doris L. Clark.
Jo Ann graduated from Wellsville Central High School with the Class of 1967. She went on to Mansfield State College to obtain her bachelor's degree in elementary education and graduated in 1972. Her graduate studies were completed at St. Bonaventure University and SUNY College at Geneseo.
On Aug. 24, 1974, she and her husband, Bill were united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Wellsville. In the same year, Jo Ann and her husband began their life together in Cuba, where they lived through their 39 years of marriage. They have one child, Holly.
Jo Ann was an elementary teacher at the Friendship Central School for 27 years and retired in June 2000. She was a highly creative and dedicated teacher, who loved children and gave generously to help them in their journey through their education.
In addition to her career, Jo Ann was a wonderful homemaker and very active mother. She loved to host all the family gatherings and did them with great flare. Jo Ann also found time to be an active member of the Cuba community. She was a longtime member of the Cuba Hospital Auxiliary and was very active the "Show-Time" plays, which were large fund-raisers for the auxiliary.
Throughout the years, her contributions to Cuba's community were numerous. On March 7, 1987, she was recognized with the Cuba Chamber of Commerce's Community Service Award. Jo Ann and her husband enjoyed many happy years as members of the Cuba Lake Yacht Club.
Jo Ann was blessed with many friends. She loved social events and being with everyone. Being so creative, she loved to decorate the floats for the Cuba Fireman's June Dairy Week Parade. Her more recent and unusual creations could be found in a specially built display window in front of her home. Each display included the use of mannequins in a seasonally festive setting.
She was a happy person who never let her physical difficulties get in the way of living life to the fullest.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Holly Kunderman of Amherst; two grandchildren, Cole and Kierra Kunderman; and a brother, Dennis (Adele) Clark of Palm Springs, Calif.
She was predeceased by her parents in 2009.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home and Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday (Sept. 23, 2013). The Rev. Timothy Gleason, pastor of Cuba United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Stannards Cemetery, Stannards.
