SPRINGFIELD, Va. - Marguerite "Peggy" L. McGowan McAuliffe, 90, passed away Thursday (Nov. 1, 2018) following a lengthy illness.

Born April 2, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harry Ivan and Evelyn Elizabeth McGowan. On Oct. 1, 1949, she married Gerald E. McAuliffe, of Olean, N.Y., who predeceased her in August of 2000.

Peggy grew up in Akron, and moved to Olean after graduating high school.

She was employed at New York Telephone Co., where she met her husband-to-be. Throughout her 25 years with New York Telephone, she worked as a phone operator, and then drafter.

Peggy enjoyed cooking, drawing, painting and ceramics. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife.

Surviving are five sons, John Eugene (Susan) of Virginia Beach, Bruce Eldon of Richmond, David Emory (Kathryn) of Tampa, Fla., Gerald Edward of Olean and Martin Eric of Oakton; and two daughters, Annette M. (Jay) Sourmany of Oakton and Joette Lynn of Oakton; as well as 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was also predeceased by her parents; her only sister, Jean; and two brothers, Paul and Harry.

Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Olean.
