OLEAN - Muriel M. Fogarty, of 125 N. Eighth St., Olean, passed away Monday (Dec. 10, 2012) in The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Olean.

She was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Canada, the daughter of the late Edgar and Ada Watson Sanderson.
On July 24, 1943, in the Little Church around the corner, New York City, she married John E. "Jack" Fogarty, who passed away June 30, 2009.
In her younger years, she was a secretary in the Amherst Central School. Later she was a secretary in the Olean High school guidance office until her retirement.
Muriel was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Birch Run Country Club, the Ancient Order of Hibernians Auxiliary and the Miles Grant Country Club, Stuart, Fla.
Surviving are a daughter, Maureen (James) DiPietro of Olean; a son, Neil J. Fogarty of Mount Vision; eight grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Fogarty of Chicago, Tara (Jimmy) Daugherty of Elmira, Sean (Alicia) Fogarty of Charlotte, N.C., Matt (Amanda) Fogarty of Endicott, Derek (Pam) Hernquist of Charlotte, N.C., Jeff (Val) Hernquist of Aviano Air Base, Italy, Greg (Courtney Cash) Hernquist of Charlotte and Louis DiPietro of Trumansburg; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1301 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (Dec. 14, 2012), beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary of the Angels Church. Father Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany. A Scripture service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
