Muriel Nolan Babitt (1924 - 2013)

EXTON, Pa. - Muriel Nolan Babbitt, 88, went to be with her Lord Feb. 3, 2013, after complications from Sjogren's syndrome.
She was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Pittsfield, Mass. She had two brothers, Charles and LeRoy Nolan, who predeceased her. She attended grade school in the Bronx, and later graduated from Pearl River High School. Her high school yearbook superlative stated, "Meet her any time of day, she always smiles the same sweet way." Upon graduation she worked in New York City as an executive secretary for Central Hanover Bank in both the Broadway and later the Plaza Fifth Avenue offices. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and New York City roots.
While serving as a U.S.O. hostess she met her future husband, John Babbitt, a medical technician in the U.S. Army. On Dec. 16, 2012, they celebrated 68 years of marriage. They settled in upstate New York, where they lived for 40 years in Houghton, N.Y. In 1983, they moved to Exton, where Muriel lived for the rest of her life. Muriel had a passion for entertaining and she enjoyed knitting, quilting and sewing. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, all of whom were the recipients of her handiwork.
Muriel was the devoted and loving wife of John S. Babbitt of Exton. She was the mother of John S. Babbitt II (Suzanne) of Canisteo, N.Y., Stephen J. Babbitt (Sharon) of Rochester, N.Y., and Susan B. De Jong (Allan)of Berwyn.
A service to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. April 6, 2013, at the Great Valley Presbyterian Church on Swedesford Road, Malvern.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Great Valley Presbyterian Church or The Gideons International.
