Richard Long Obituary

TYLER, TEXAS - Having accepted Christ as his Savior in 1984, Richard "Rick" K. Long earned his final reward on Saturday (Sept. 29, 2018), when he left his earthly body at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.

The son of John and Virginia (Evans) Long, Jr, Rick was born in Pottsville, Pa. on April 12, 1963. His family included Ruth (Joel) Zeiders, William (Kunnattree) Long, John (Annie) Long, III, Kathy Long, and Barb (Tom) Martin.

Rick married the love of his life, Billie Jo Baublitz on May 26, 1984 at Camp Hill, Pa. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Rebecca (Jacob) Erickson and Heather (Josua) Fischer. Although time with his grandchildren was too short, he adored David and Joshua Erickson and Adelaide Fischer.

In 1981, Rick graduated from East Pennsboro Area High School, then attended Penn State York Campus for two years. He went on to Penn State Main Campus, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985.

He worked at Pratt and Whitney, West Palm Beach, Fla., for 5 years, then moved to Olean, N.Y., to be an engineer at Dresser Rand Industries. He became the Manufacturing Manager and continued to work there until called to the ministry.

An obedient servant of God, Rick took classes online and at Houghton College in preparation for the ministry. He became the pastor of Hillside Wesleyan Church in Olean in 2004, was ordained in 2008 at Hamburg Wesleyan Church and continued at Hillside until July, 2017 when, due to illness, he and his wife settled in Texas to be near their daughter.

Rick spent many happy hours as an N-Gauge Railroad enthusiast. He enjoyed praising God by playing his bass guitar with Hillside's worship team and helping people through local outreaches and mission trips. He was best known for "Chasing after God on his knees," great faith and a shepherd's heart.

Rick is survived by his mother; siblings; wife; children; grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father in 1997.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct 13, 2018) at Hillside Wesleyan Church, 753 Prospect Ave, Olean. A luncheon will be served following the service in the fellowship room of Christ United Methodist Church, 633 Linwood Ave, Olean.

Memorials may be given in Rick's honor and memory to Gospel for Asia Jesus Wells in care of Hillside Wesleyan Church, 753 Prospect Ave, Olean.
