OLEAN - Robert Edward Bargy, of Olean, a lifelong resident of the Salamanca area, died early Wednesday morning (Dec. 5, 2018) at Cuba Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.

Born Jan. 22, 1932, in Kill Buck, he was the son of the late Hiram and Leona Gibbons Bargy. He was married in Carson City, Nev., on May 24, 1967, to the former Wilma Rohr, who predeceased him.

Mr. Bargy was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 110th Infantry 28th Division during the Korean Conflict.

He had been employed as a detective for the Kilgore Detective Agency, in Heritage, Pa. and Doyle Security in Buffalo, prior to his retirement.

He attended the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Olean and was a former member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. Bargy was also a former member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535.

Surviving are three daughters, Patti (Steve) Snyder of Pearl River, La., Ruth Bargy of Salamanca and Cheryl (Richard) Meyers of Lakewood; a special step-daughter, Sandy (Michael Bryant) White of Franklinville; five sons, Richard (Deborah) Bargy of Salamanca, Donald Bargy of Raleigh, N.C., Larry (Catherine) Pendleton of Silver Springs, Nev., James Pendleton of Texas and Frank (Rebecca) Garrett of Salamanca; three step-daughters, Lharmony Vittaco, Kalypall Kiu, Vanneary Lamouth, all of Cambodia; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ann Heap; two brothers, William Bargy and Devello Bargy; and two sisters, Gaithel Whitmer and Mary Sanford.

Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca.

In honoring Mr. Bargy's request, there will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca.
