KATY, Texas - Susan Kelly Smith, 42, died Friday (Jan. 25, 2013) in her home following a long battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 30, 1970, in Penn Yan, N.Y., the daughter of Margaret "Peg" Welch. She was raised by her adoptive parents, Betsey and Pat Kelly. On Feb. 25, 1989, in Wellsville, she was married to Wayne Smith, who survives.
She was a graduate of the Portville High School class of 1988, where she was active in the varsity swim team. In 1994, she received her LPN certification from BOCES vocational school. In 2005, she received her registered nurse degree from Alfred State College.
She was known as a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend to many.
She was a former resident of both Cuba, N.Y., and Scio, N.Y., prior to moving to Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Smith of Katy; three sons, Ryan (Jenna), Jacob and James Smith, all of Huntsville; a daughter, Camie Collins Smith of Katy; her adoptive parents, Pat and Betsey Kelly of Cuba; four sisters, Jennifer (Steve) Johnson of Watertown, N.Y., Christine (Mike) Keiffer of Williamsville, N.Y., Heather (Scott) Carlson of Olean, N.Y., and Karen (Keith) Nealey of Bath, N.Y.; grandparents, Alex and Dorothea Kelly of Olean and Sharon Strawcutter of Cuba; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Welch; her maternal grandparents, Mike and Helen Welch; and a very special cousin, Kathy Kohm.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 9, 2013) in the Scio Church of Christ with the Rev. Glen Layfield officiating.
