FRIENDSHIP – The Rev. Joseph Patrick Gancedo, 81, of 16 Maple Ave. passed away Tuesday (Oct. 15, 2013) following a brief illness.

Born March 18, 1932, in New York City, he was a son of Jose and Mary Connova Gancedo. On Dec. 12, 1998, in Dunnellon, Fla., he married the former Juanita Lewis, who survives.
Rev. Gancedo had grown up in Queens and attended school there. At the age of 20, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served as machine gun operator in the Korean War. He was in combat while serving.
Upon his return, he worked in various places in Florida. For many years, he was a minister and founder of The Chapel of the Holy Ghost Church in Tampa. He came to Friendship in 2007.
He enjoyed fishing, jewelry making, watching video games, and he dearly loved his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Juanita, are five sons, James Gancedo of Florida, Joshua (Tabitha) Courteau of Friendship, Justin D. Courteau of Florida, John Michael Gancedo of Florida and Woody J. (Clara) Braley Jr. of Hinsdale; three daughters, Nancy R. Gancedo of Florida, Laura Gancedo of Florida and Mari I. Courteau of Florida; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Stissi of New Jersey; three sisters, Alice (Al) Depew of Georgia, Frances McGee of Jersey, N.Y., and Diana (Todd) Wilson of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Manuel R. Gancedo.
