OLEAN - Eunice I. Hollander, of 508 King St., passed away Thursday (March 20, 2014) at the Wellsville Manor.
Born May 6, 1918, in Freedom, she was a daughter of Floyd O'Dell and Bessie Eliza Hover Gleason. On Jan. 10, 1940, she married Joseph F. Hollander, who, after 55 years of marriage, predeceased her Jan. 5, 1995.
Mrs. Hollander was a graduate of Olean High School and had worked for 18 years at the former S&H Green Stamps Store, first in Olean and, after its closing, in Bradford, Pa.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and was an involved volunteer all of her life. She assisted with the distribution of the original Salk polio vaccine in all the Olean area schools. She served as president of the PTA at the former School 4 and was a leader, officer and board member of the Olean Campfire Girls Council as well as a den leader for the Cub Scouts. She was a longtime member and former board of directors member of Zonta International.
In more recent years, she volunteered for 25 years as a driver and server for Meals on Wheels.
Her first love was her family, and she adored her granddaughters. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband in the United States and Canada, and kept busy sewing, crocheting and happily singing songs and playing music.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (John) Butzow of Indiana, Pa.; a son, David Hollander of Olean; two granddaughters, Karen Butzow of Indiana, Pa., and Kristen (William) Franck of Richmond, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Delilah; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Gertrude Gleason, Ruth Johnson and Loretta Allen; and two brothers, Lionel Gleason and Floyd Gleason.
Friends are invited to a visitation at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W.
