SCIO - Marshall J. Buckley, 91, of Washington Street, passed away Monday (March 24, 2014) in his home after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 23, 1922, the son of Chester and Libbie Marshall Buckley. On Dec. 24, 1942, in Albany, Ga., he married the love of his life, Lillian F. Nimm, who predeceased him in 2007.
He was a graduate of the Scio Central School and served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, where he was a pitcher for the base traveling teams. He was retired from Air Preheater Corp., and as an avid sportsman enjoyed watching and playing all types of sports.
Together with his wife, he spent seven years on the Ski Patrol at Ski Wing in Allegany, and he skied in many different areas of the U.S. He also played many years on the local town baseball and basketball teams. He also played trombone with the Scio Marching Band.
Marshall had many stories to tell about hunting, fishing, and his travels throughout the states with his partner, "Lil."
Surviving are two daughters, Marcella (Jerry) Barnett of Coudersport, Pa., and Cherie Marsh of White, Ga.; a son, Larry (Linda) Buckley of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Bernadean Steins.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday (March 28, 2014), at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville, where full military rites will be rendered by members of Wellsville Legion Post No. 702, followed by funeral services with the Rev. Craig Buckley officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio.
