ALLEGANY - JoAnn R. Mazza, 88, formerly of 2877 Five Mile Road, passed away Tuesday (April 8, 2014) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Born on June 2, 1925, JoAnn was the daughter of Donald L. and Mary E. Wheeler, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 11, 1945, at the Olean First Baptist Church, she married her husband of 66 years, Bernard E. Mazza, who predeceased her Feb. 7, 2012.
JoAnn was a graduate of Olean High School, class of 1943, and attended Westbrook Academy. She was a homemaker and a member of Olean First Baptist Church.
JoAnn was a Sunday school teacher, trustee, deaconess and president of the American Baptist Women's Society. A longtime member of the Olean Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she held the offices of chaplain, sunshine chairman and regent. For many years, JoAnn was a devoted volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She lived in Friendship for several years and was a member of the Friendship chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
JoAnn is survived by two sons, Alan (Jane) Mazza of Eastman, Ga., Mark Mazza of McFarland, Wis., two grandsons, Bradley (Candace) Mazza and David (Kimberly) Mazza, both of Eastman; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Mazza and McKenna Mazza, both of Eastman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with her loving husband, JoAnn was predeceased by a brother, Gene Wheeler.
Friends will be received Saturday (April 12, 2014) at the Letro-McIntsoh-Spink Funeral Home, 646 E. State St., Olean, from 1 to 2 p.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Millard Cook, associate pastor at the Olean First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery, Allegany.
