PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Rose S. Mathias, of Palm Harbor, formerly of Lewiston, N.Y., Las Cruces, N.M., and Atlanta, passed away Monday (April 14, 2014) surrounded by her loving family.

Born Dec. 23, 1917, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Joseph Burke and Rose McElhone Sullivan. On Sept. 7, 1940, she married Thomas R. Mathias who predeceased her on Jan. 2, 1988.
Mrs. Mathias volunteered with Stephen's Ministry in Atlanta, and she enjoyed traveling around the United States and abroad.
Surviving are her four children, Margaret (Kenneth) Klespies of Oldsmar, Fla., Elizabeth (John) Kozak of Lake Forest, Ill., Thomas (Ann) Mathias of Lancaster, N.Y., and Mary (John) Baldwin of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Stout, Margaret Lynch, Suzanne Carroll, Jeremy Ley, Brent Klespies, William E. Mathias, Erin Mathias, Thomas Mathias, Christine Baldwin and Michelle Capecelatro.
Friends will be received Monday (April 21, 2014) at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at which time a Mass of Christian burial will begin. The Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will officiate. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
Memorials if desired may be made to St. Bonaventure University, attn: Franciscan Institute.
