SANDUSKY - Vinton E. Nourse, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday (April 23. 2014) at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.

He was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Freedom, a son of Harrison R. and Vera Marie Follet Nourse. On May 22, 1948, in Buffalo, he married Jean A. Yavicoli, who survives.
Mr. Nourse was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He served on the minesweeper ship, the U.S.S. Earle DM 52, in the Pacific Ocean between 1944 and 1946. After the bombing of Nagasaki, Japan, he was involved with a tour of the effects from the atomic bomb.
He was a maintenance man for 25 years at Motorola in Arcade. He retired Oct. 1987. He had also worked for his brother, Vincent, at Nourse Plumbing & Heating in Sandusky.
Mr. Nourse enjoyed golfing and playing cards. He was involved with the Sandusky Youth Sports.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Gregory (Marcie) Nourse of Glen Burnie, Md., Gary (Angela) Nourse of South St. Paul, Minn., Jackie (Skip) Merrick of Belmont, Dennis (Micki) Nourse of Fort Myers, Fla., and Mark (Darleen) Nourse of Concord, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Vale Nourse, Vina Salamone; Vincent Nourse, Victor Nourse, Vance Nourse and Verno Nourse.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (July 19, 2014) at Delevan Cemetery. The Rev. Shawn Hannon will officiate. Burial will be at Delevan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Freedom Senior Citizens, 11606 Sparks Road, Freedom, NY 14065; the American VFW; or the American Legion.
