OLEAN - Thomas F. Michienzi Sr., of North Ninth Street, passed away Monday (April 28, 2014) in Olean General Hospitall after a brief illness.

Born on Aug. 11, 1926, in Austin, Pa., he was a son of the late Joseph and Angeline Deacon Michienzi. On Dec. 29, 1945, in Olean, he married Rose M. Rosetti, who passed away April 19, 2009.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army 9th Armored Infantry in the European Theater. He was a recipient of the Conspicuous Service Award. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Occupational Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Tom retired from McGraw Edison Corp. after 20 years of service.
Tom was a musician and bandleader for Hits and a Miss for more than 40 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, playing cards and golfing in the Geritol League. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was one of the founders of the AMVETS Organization and a member of VFW No. 1619, and he marched in the colorguard for both organizations. He was also a member of the Moose, the Elks and the Olean American Legion.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Michienzi Jr. of Olean and David (Risa) Michienzi of Hinsdale; a daughter, Sharon (Gene) Snyder of Olean; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Sincropi of La Quinta, Calif., and Frances (William) Johnston of Naperville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ackerman; two young brothers, Frank and Anthony; and two older brothers, John and Perry Michienzi.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Thursday (May 1, 2014) in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Father Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. A Scripture wake service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday evening.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors or St. Mary of the Angels Church.
