FORT LEWIS, Wash. - Spc. Kyle R. Mason, 23, died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Born on July 28, 1990, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of Belinda Mason of Catskill, N.Y., and Robert Barletta of Brattleboro, Vt. He was married in 2009 to the former Lacey Privatera of South Carolina, who survives.
Kyle was a graduate of Salamanca (N.Y.) High School, class of 2008. He had attended Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, N.Y., before joining the U.S. Army at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. Kyle was serving as a HVAC specialist at Fort Lewis and had served a tour of duty in Afghanistan. He was preparing for redeployment at the time of his passing.
Kyle enjoyed the outdoors, the music and arts. He was devoted to his family, friends and community.
During high school, he played varsity lacrosse, football and bowling. He played the trumpet in the high school band, was in chorus and was a member of the drama club. He had also sung with the Seneca Junction, a barbershopping group, and had been selected for All County and All State chorus. He had also attended Boys State.
Surviving besides his parents are five aunts, Barbara (Gene) Nunn of Kane, Pa., Maureen (Robert) Simon of Ashville, N.C., Patricia Mason of Buffalo, Gina Barletta of Jacksonville, Fla., and Margaret Barletta of Brattleboro, Vt.; three uncles, Todd (Melinda) Mason of Catskill, Eric (Angie) Mason of Charlotte, N.C., and Tony (Tammy) Barletta of Pinkerton, Ohio; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Carol Hull Mason; his paternal grandfather, Harold Barletta, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II; an aunt, Karen M. Haas; and an uncle, Kenneth H. Mason.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday (June 13, 2014) in United Congregational Methodist Church, 134 Broad St., Salamanca, with the Rev. Raymond Gilman officiating. Committal services with full military honors will be held at Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca.
