SALAMANCA – Katherine M. Pennell, 90, of Killbuck Road, passed away Thursday (June 12, 2014) at her home.

She was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Little Valley, the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Margaret (Lutz) Paschen.

Mrs. Pennell had worked at Fancher Furniture in Salamanca, Woolen Mill, as a book keeper at Drew Equipment, Petersons, Knowles and Fisher, and retired from Bush Bros. at 62. She then worked for 14 years at Cattaraugus County Health Care.

She was a 1940 graduate of Little Valley High School. She was a member of the Little Valley United Methodist Church, Ellicottville American Legion Auxiliary. She loved dancing.

She is survived by her husband, David Pennell; a son, Perry (Linda) Hemenway of Cattaraugus; two daughters, Pamela Hemenway of Ripley and Anita (Dan) French of Allegany; three stepsons, Roger Pennell of Mexico, Paul(Valerie) Pennell of Clarence and Larry Pennell of Blasdell; a stepdaughter, Linda (Jim) Taylor of Bensalem, Pa.; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer (Hank), Marlena, Heidi, Nathan, Justin, Jamie, Sarah, Paul, Bethany, Michael, Steve, Kristi and Joelle; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Earl Henenway; a son, Glenn Hemenway; a sister, Caroline Lindsay; and a grandson, Travis Hemenway.

Friends may call from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and from noon to 1 p.m. Monday (June 16, 2014) at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St., Little Valley. Funeral services will be held on at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Little Valley Rural Cemetery.
