COUDERSPORT, Pa. - Keith E. Baker, 74, formerly of Horseheads, N.Y., passed away in his home with his loving family by his side Saturday (July 26, 2014) after a long illness.
Born Nov. 17, 1939, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Russell L. and Virginia L. Brewer Baker. He was a graduate of Coudersport High School, class of 1958. Following high school, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany. He was discharged in June 1960, and was called back up to serve from 1961 to 1962.
Keith was employed by Emporium Specialties in Austin, as a machinist. He later was employed as a machinist at the A & P Plant in Horseheads for more than 10 years. He retired as a machinist and tool and die maker from Purolator Products in Elmira, N.Y. after 24 ½ years of service.
He was a member of Coudersport American Legion Post 192 and a member of the Moose in Port Allegany. He enjoyed golfing, especially with his cousin, Gene; and his wife, Sandy of Olean, N.Y. He volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels in Elmira and Horseheads. Keith enjoyed life to its fullest.
Surviving are a sister, Shirley L. (William) Gleason of Coudersport; nieces and nephews, Chuck (Brenda) Gleason of Dreumore, and Kaye Gleason-Breitinstien, Terry Gleason and Jeff (Sally) Gleason, all of Coudersport; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, Keith was predeceased by a nephew, Rick E. Gleason in 1986.
In keeping with Keith's wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
