MACHIAS - Velma L. Lockwood of Franklinville, formerly of Pennsylvania Avenue, died Sunday (July 27, 2014) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Machias.

Born on Dec. 3, 1928, in Franklinville, she was a daughter of Jesse and Hulda Goetz Harris. On March 3, 1951, in Dunkirk, she married Frank Lockwood, who died Jan. 12, 1977.

Mrs. Lockwood attended Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville and worked for several years at Ontario Knife Co. in Franklinville. She was proud to be a loving mother and homemaker.

Mrs. Lockwood was a life member of VFW Post 9487 of Franklinville and the Free Methodist Church in Franklinville.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, playing cards, going to bingo, stock car racing and loving up her grandchildren.

Surviving is a son, James (Dianna Silsby); a daughter, Dorothy (Robert) Oakes of Machias; five grandchildren, Greg (Kelly) Oakes, Wendy (Matt Pleace) Egner, Chad (Krystal) Silsby, Jamie (Craig) Gregory and Justin Myers; 10 great-grandchildren, Cody and Cortney Egner, Tristan and Sara Pleace, Michael and Tyler Oakes, Renee and Destiny Silsby and Skyler and Everett Gregory; a sister, Doreen (Howard) Green of Franklinville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Geraldine Lockwood in 2005; a grandson, James C. Lockwood; two brothers, Albert and Norman Harris; and a sister, Margaret Pettit.

Friends may gather with the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville, where her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (July 31, 2014). Celebrating her life will be the Rev. Mack Bixby, pastor of the Farmersville Community Church. Burial will follow in Mount Prospect Cemetery in Franklinville.
