OLEAN - Joseph B. Kasperski, of 1016 Walnut St., passed away Friday (Aug. 8, 2014) at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Born Jan. 24, 1924, in Olean, the son of the late Joseph F. and Martha Kwiatkowski Kasperski. On Feb. 4, 1948, in Olean, he married Elizabeth T. Anzivine, who predeceased him Aug. 23, 1999.
He was a lifetime resident of Olean, and a graduate of Olean High School, class of 1942. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carriers U.S.S. Randolph and the U.S.S. Kearsarge. He was employed by VanDerHorst Corp. for more than 40 years, retiring in 1987.
Joe was a member of the Transfiguration Church and St. John's Church. He was a lifelong member of the Pulaski Club and the Olean Rod and Gun Club.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler, golfer, and enjoyed woodworking and tending to his flower garden.
Surviving are his daughter, Marcia (William) Stayer of Allegany; two sons, Robert (Kimberly) Kasperski and Richard (Tammy) Kasperski, both of Penfield; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Vincent, James (Tammy) Stayer, Julie Stayer, Matthew Kasperski, Joseph Kasperski, Tara Kasperski and Toby Kasperski; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Eugenia Miller of Olean; a brother, Eugene Kasperski of Olean; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by siblings, Martha Kasperski and Sister Clarentine.
Family will received friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2014) beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church. Monsignor William Wangler will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
