Pauline K. Gebauer (1930 - 2012)

EMPORIUM, Pa. - Pauline K. Gebauer, 82, of Elk Towers, 185 Center St., St. Marys, formerly of 430 W. 6th St., Emporium, died Friday evening (Sept. 28, 2012) at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.
She was born Jan. 8, 1930, in DuBois, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Anna Kassawara. On Oct. 18, 1958, in St. Mark Catholic Church, she married the Gerhard Gebauer, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gebauer graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1948. After graduating high school, she worked at the Five and Dime Store. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she really enjoyed living, and worked as a secretary at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. She returned to Emporium to care for her mother and worked at Sylvania in Emporium. She then got married and raised her four children and devoted most of her life to her family. When she was in her 50s, she attended DuBois School of Cosmetology, became a hairdresser and worked from her home and at local nursing homes.
She was an avid reader, making several trips to the library each week. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and the CD of A.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Ann Gebauer of Columbus, Ohio, and Christine (James) Howard of Eldred; two sons, Jeffrey J. Gebauer of Olean, N.Y., and Greg (Dana) Gebauer of St. Marys; and four grandchildren, Josh and Andrew Gebauer and Aaron and Auston Howard.
She was predeceased by her parents, Rudolph and Anna Kassawara; her husband, Gerhard Gebauer, who died Dec. 24, 2009; and an infant brother.
There will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2012) at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 235 E. Fourth St., Emporium. The Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library, 27 W. 4th St., P.O. Box 430, Emporium, PA 15834-0430; the St. Marys Public Library, 127 Center St., St. Marys, PA 15857; or the St. Marys Ambulance Service, 773 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.
