SALAMANCA - William D. "Uncle Bill" Ferguson, 89, of Salamanca, passed joyfully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Sunday (Feb. 17, 2013) at the Bradford (Pa.) Manor.
Born on Nov. 30, 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland, he was a son of the late John and Jean Dunsire Ferguson. They immigrated to the United States in 1925.
He was married on Sept. 14, 1946, in Pittsburgh to his Navy Wave bride, the former Elizabeth Orwig, who predeceased him June 5, 2006.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a radio operator with the 104th Cavalry in central Europe and Northern France during World War II. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Ferguson served the Lord in many different ways: Murrysville Bible Chapel, Red House Chapel, Camp Li-Lo-Li, Wholeway House, the Voice of Many Waters Radio Program, Salamanca Christian Academy and the Salamanca Bible Chapel.
Surviving are three sons, Bill (Susan) Ferguson, Jim (Donna) Ferguson and Kirby (Andrea) Ferguson, all of Salamanca; two daughters, Cathie (Jerry) Whitcomb of Randolph and Betsy (Allan) McIntee of St. Catherines, Ontario; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Abby Ferguson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Ferguson.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. A memorial service will be held Saturday (Feb. 23, 2013) at a time and place to be announced.
