OLEAN - Raymond F. Higby Sr., formerly of 401 Alder St., Olean, passed away Friday (March 8, 2013) in The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Olean.
Born Sept. 17, 1925, in Homer, he was the son of the late Homer J. and Mary Belle Martin Higby. On Dec. 15, 1973, in Weston's Mills, he married the former Dorothy Woodard, who survives.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ray worked at LeRoy Machine Shop for several years and later for the Olean City School District, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the former German Lutheran Church of Olean.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Raymond F. Higby Jr.; two daughters, Linda Shaner and Barbara White; stepchildren, Jane (James Caskey) Dickerson, Scott Harris and Honor (David) Fries; a brother, Douglas Higby of Colorado; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Willis Webb of Olean.
He was predeceased by a sister, Leah Webb.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Allegany Cemetery.
