KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Joseph "Chops" Wurster, 63, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Sunday (March 17, 2013) at his home.
Born on June 11, 1949, in Olean, N.Y., he had resided in the Kingsport area for the last six years after moving from Pinellas Park, Fla., where he lived for 32 years.
He was of the Presbyterian faith; was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War; and was a member of AMVETS, the American Legion, DAV and the Eagles.
Joe played and wrote music, was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and worked with stained glass.
Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laurie Wurster; a brother, Richard L. (Geraldine) Wurster of Portville, N.Y.; a sister, Donna (Leonard) Reed of Portville; his parents, Richard L. and Arlo Rae Barnes Wurster of Portville; several nieces and nephews and his Florida brotherhood.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Philip Wurster, in 2004.
A family gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (March 30, 2013) at the First Presbyterian Church in Portville with the Rev. Marilyn Hale officiating. Special music will be provided by Andrew and Heather Reed.
