WESLACO, Texas - Rachel Smith Kerr, of Weslaco, passed away Monday (Sept. 9, 2013) in a house fire at her home.

Born Sept. 12, 1953, in St. Paul, Minn., she was the daughter of Charles E. and Mary E. Smith. She was married in 1974 to Robert Kerr Sr., who survives.
Rachel was a graduate of Fillmore Central School and received a degree from New Tribes Institute in Waukesha, Wis. She was a missionary for New Tribes Mission for 20 years and in Faith Missions for 19 years, serving in Paraguay, South America, Florida, Mexico and Texas.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Robert (Valerie) Kerr Jr. of New York and Richard (Esther) Kerr of Oklahoma; three grandchildren; three brothers, Chuck (Peg) Smith of Shipshewana, Ind., Tom (Sue) Smith of Edwardsburg, Minn., and Jim (Sue) Smith of Fairborn, Ohio; six sisters, Sally (Don) Mosman of Clarksville, Tenn., Corky (Scott) Murphy of Attica, N.Y., Joy Dorner of Allison Park, Pa., Edie (Carl III) Monkhouse of Allegany, N.Y., Emily (Les) Gray of Tawas City, Mich., and Rebecca (Lou Greto) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Drew Dorner; and a nephew, Craig Monkhouse.
A memorial service was held by her siblings in Fairborn, Ohio.
