James Higby Obituary

CUBA - Arthur James Higby, of 9707 W. Cuba Road in Cuba, passed away Thursday (April 28, 2016) from an extended illness.
Born and raised in West Clarksville, Art graduated from Richburg Central School, Erie Community College with an associate degree in chemistry and graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics.
He served in the armed forces after the Korean War in Okinawa. Art spent most of his career as a materials engineer for Acme Electric. He was a passionate tennis player who was able to beat the pants off much younger players well into his 70s.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Cuba for over 50 years, attended Cuba United Methodist Church and served the community as a volunteer with many different organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Brown Higby; his four children, Patrice Hatfield (Jack) Metzger of Ontario, N.Y., Pam Higby (Clif) Swan of Belmont, Dr. Paige Higby (Rick Munnis) of Holland, Mass. and Arthur J. (AJ) Higby of Cottekill; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Cuba United Methodist Church, 49 E. Main St., Cuba, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday (May 1, 2016), at which time a memorial service will be held. Rev. Burton Smith Jr. will officiate. Members of Cuba Friendship Masonic Lodge 306 F&AM will conduct Masonic Services at 1 p.m. in the church. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery in Cuba.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under direction of Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc. in Cuba.
