George Marvin Mesch, age 87 of Stanton, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Ne. He was born July 13, 1925 at Bloomfield, Ne, the son of Floyd and M. Maggie (Smith) Mesch. The family moved to Stanton in 1936 when George's father, Floyd bought the John Deere Dealership. George attended Stanton High School and was later granted a G.E.D. in a Veteran's Day Ceremony, a Certificate from the State of Nebraska Department of Education bestowed to all World War II
Veterans that did not receive a high school diploma. In 1943, he joined the United States Army
and served in World War II fighting at Leyte and Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. On October 19, 1946, George married Robinette Schilling at St. John's Lutheran Parsonage in Stanton. The couple were blessed with 2 children, Doug and Deanna. They bought the John Deere dealership and operated it until 1977, when George retired. He enjoyed his time restoring John Deere Tractors and polka dancing. He was a member of New England Congregational Church in Stanton; member of Stanton V.F.W
. Post #3602. George is survived by his daughter, Deanna Mesch, Grand Island, NE; sister, Shirley Schlecht, Denver, CO; nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Robinette on September 5, 1993; son, Douglas in 1983; 2 infant daughters; 3 sisters, Lucille Mesch; Dorothy Beaudette; Vera Barlow.
