David City, NE. Passed away on May 25, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical in Lincoln. Alfred Matthew Bongers was born November 30, 1932 to Carl and Clara (Birkel) Bongers at their home in Brainard. He graduated from David City Public and attended Benedictine College for 3 years. Alfred farmed for most of his life. He farmed during the winters in Australia for 15 years until he married Susan Schlentz on August 31, 1984. The most important aspect of Alfred's life was the love for his family. Alfred was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and he served as an acolyte for several years, being one of the first parishioners to become an acolyte. Alfred was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1717, and Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre. He is survived by his wife, Susan Bongers and daughter, Sara Bongers of Denver, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, and brother John Bongers.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL 10am Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. Mary's in David City with Father Bernard Kimminau officiating. VIEWING will be Wednesday from 5-7pm at the church with a 7pm Rosary.
