Passed away in Rome, GA following an extended illness. Formerly of Omaha and Fremont, NE, she had been a resident of Rome since 2003. "Dee" was born in Turlock, CA, and was raised in Omaha. She attended Stephens College in Columbus, MO and then the University of Nebraska, and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She graduated in 1949 with a BS in Home Economics. She married Walter W. Dorothy on August 27, 1949 in Omaha. After living in North Platte, Grand Island, and Fremont, they settled in Omaha in 1960. Dee was active in YWCA of Omaha, Girl Scouts of America, Gamma Phi Beta Alumni and church activities. After returning to live in Fremont in 1984, she took painting lessons, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Fremont; Stephen's Ministry; Fremont Area Art Association; PEO and Questers. Her entire life she was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan, with season tickets for over 25 years and traveling to away games with her husband and special friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary, in 1929; her parents, Edward A. Kent and Goldie L. Furlow; and her husband in 2002. Survivors include daughters, Barbara (Mrs. John) Beninato, Rome, Janet (Mrs. Allen) Pawling, Cherry Hill, NJ; grandchildren, Leigh B. Holmes, Rome, Leslie Beninato, Boone, NC; William Pawling, Virginia Beach, VA, and Christopher Pawling, Cherry Hill, NJ; and niece Linda Gerleit, Lebanon, NJ.
Memorials have been established to: Fremont Area Art Association, 92 West 6th Street, Fremont, NE 68025; and the Presbyterian Church of Fremont, 520 West Linden Avenue, Fremont, NE 68025. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha at a later date.
