Preceded in death by father, Pedro Antonio Brignoni; brother, Rafael Leonidas Brignoni; grandmother, Juanita Pelaez. Survived by husband, Scott D. McIntyre; son, David Miguel Garcia; mother, Evangelina Brignoni Garcia; sisters: Lillian Brignoni, Rose Escobosa, Evelyn Metcalf; brothers, Peter Brignoni and Michael Brignoni; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones. Evangelina "Gigi" Brignoni was a life-long teacher. She taught elementary school in Southern California, much of the time in the Montebello School District. She continued her education and earned a PhD in Education from Chapman University. She took a position with the University of Nebraska–Omaha in 2006 as an assistant professor in the Teacher Education Department, earning tenure in 2011. Gigi was raised in an English-speaking home but became fluent in Spanish. She was a tireless advocate of bilingual education. She was national vice president of the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women. Gigi was awarded the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation Latina of the Year in 2010.
