Howe, Margaret "Jane" (Smith)
May 13, 1941- Jul 19, 2012

Omaha, NE. Preceded in death by her father and mother, Jesse B and Mildred "Miny" R. Smith. Survived by husband, Jerry, whom she married September 9, 1962; siblings, James (Debbie) Smith, and Patricia (Alfred) Hoshor; children, Jeffery and Sheila Howe, James and Mari Howe, Jon and Carolyn Howe, and Jeanne Howe; and grandchildren, Keegan, Gabriella, Trevor, Nolan, and Meara Howe. Jane was born in David City, NE, where she graduated from David City High School in 1959. After Jane received a B.S. degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, she entered a career in education that included ownership of Happy Lane Pre-school, Nebraska's first licensed pre-school, and served as Director of the Cass County Head Start program for 18 years, where she wrote several grants to improve educational opportunities and the well-being for pre-school aged children and their families throughout the county. In addition to participation in various community organizations and advisory boards throughout the years, most recently, Jane served on the Advisory Board and wrote grants for CASA as well as FMB. After Jane retired in 2007, she realized she still had a love for working with children, so she came out of retirement to work as a paraprofessional at Plattsmouth's Elementary school. Jane had a passion for fishing, sports and fast cars, but always put her family and children first. She was a devoted wife, mother and daughter, and always had a deep compassion for others.
