Preceded in death by father, Merrill J. Mattes; mother, Eleanor Shutt Mattes; stepmother, Clara Ritschard Mattes. Survived by wife of 49 years, Carmen Del Lhano Mattes; daughter, Jennifer Jill Mattes of Florida; brothers, John Mattes (Wanda) of Texas and David Mattes (Ruth) of California. Warren attended Omaha Central High School; the class of 1958 might recall him in the role of Stage Director in the play "Our Town." Warren earned an undergraduate degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University; as a senior, he was the recipient of the 1962 Enid Miller Award for Best Actor. His graduate degrees in English Literature were from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Warren devoted a lifetime of teaching English and Drama beginning at Robin Mickle Junior High in Lincoln followed by Technical High School, Northwest and North High Schools in Omaha. His love for the theater, nurtured at Wesleyan, motivated him to resurrect the drama program at North High School; he retired in 1999. Nearly two decades of a courageous battle with several illnesses preceded his death.
