My heart hurts so much! For Shirley, his sons and the entire family at Bluebird. It will never be the same when I come to visit, because Harlan would always sneek up on my mother and I with his wonderful smile and gracious hug! You are all in my prayers. I wish I could have been there, unfortunately I am out of the country. With love and prayers, Betty

Hamernik family: Harlan gave me my first nursey job at Gardenland in the late 90's. I truly admired his knowledge and passion of plants; I was always at awe, and tried to absorb as much as I could - like a kid in a candy store. He always took time to talk and give me little tours of the greenhouses. I always sought out Harlan at the NNLA functions...so glad I did. He was and always will be my inspiration, thanks for giving me what text books couldn't. Harlan, thanks for the memories, you will truly be missed. Thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

To the family of Harlan Hamernik,
It is with our deepest sympathy that we extend our condolences to the entire Hamernik family.
Harlan was an exceptional man, even to those of us who thought we knew him. He was totally sharing & never too busy to give & impart his knowledge of plants, all types of plants.
His boundless energy & enthusiasm was an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure & privilege to know him. He can not be replaced.
Harlan's contributions to the horticultural world will be long remembered. His business acumen & ethics are irreplaceable.
It was our extreme pleasure to work with Harlan as a business associate , but more importantly as a friend.
To the entire Hamernik family we extend our sympathy . Knowing that you will carry on Harlan's legacy, just as he would have wanted.

Our family wishes to extend our sincere sympathy to you, Shirley, and your family in your tragic loss. Harlan was so admired by my father and mother, Ted and Elsie Korves, and my father always had a great deal of respect for Harlan and his ingenuity in the field of horticulture. We felt so honored when Harlan attended my father's funeral in 2007. It meant so much to my mother. God Bless you and your family and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

In every generation there are pioneers, statesmen, and visonaries that can inspire the progression of an industry to the next level. Harlan Hamernik is that pioneer for the horticulture industry! His passion for discovering, promoting, and educating the industry and public to the next "perennial introduction" is legendary. His concern for the next generation of "plantspersons" and his ability to inspire us all thru his passion of plants will live on! Harlan thank you for your inspiration to us all. I know you will be forever exploring the heavenly gardens! God Bless You and Your Family
