Dr. Warren Bosley, Grand Island, NE, died Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Brookestone Village in Omaha. Dr. Bosley was born January 1, 1922, in Palisade, NE to Charles and Verna Bosley. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alleen; and his brother, Robert. Survivors include 5 sons and a daughter, Charles and his wife Judy, Barbara Ferguson, Matthew, Timothy and his wife Robyn, David and his wife Susan, and John. He is also survived by his sister, Nadine McCreary; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many former patients whom he considered family. Dr. Bosley grew up in Palisade and graduated from Palisade High School in 1938. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1941 and the College of Medicine in 1944. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and Alpha Omega Alpha honorary fraternities and Phi Chi social fraternity. He married Alleen Finney on May 20, 1944, in Lincoln, NE. After graduation, they moved to Baltimore, MD, where Dr. Bosley completed an internship in Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, stationed in Germany at the end of WWII. After his discharge, Dr. Bosley completed a residency in Pediatrics at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. In 1950, he began his pediatric practice in Grand Island. Throughout his life, Dr. Bosley served his patients, his community, and his profession. His many works include member, Grand Island Board of Education, 1959-1993, president 1963 and 1972; team doctor, Grand Island Senior High athletics; member, Grand Island Library Board; volunteer clinician, Medically Handicapped Children's Program, medical advisor, Head Start Program; member, Nebraska Board of Health, Nebraska Commission for Children and Youth, Special Education Appeals Board, Nebraska Blue Cross Blue Shield Board of Directors; member, Nebraska Medical Association, president 1975-1976; fellow and chairman of Council of Pediatric Practice, American Academy of Pediatrics; examiner, American Board of Pediatrics; clinical assistant professor University of Nebraska College of Medicine, founding member and board member of Friends of the McGoogan Library of Medicine; member, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Ashler Masonic Lodge #33, and Tehama Shrine Temple. Dr. Bosley enjoyed sharing stories of his life, reading, book collecting, photography, traveling, bagpiping, and Colorado trout fishing. Dr. Bosley's remains will be buried in the Palisade Cemetery in Hitchcock County. His family suggests memorials to the UNMC McGoogan Library of Medicine, 986705 Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha NE 68198-6705.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE honoring Dr. Bosley's life will be at 3:30pm Friday, November 2, at St. Luke's Chapel, The Nebraska Medical Center Clarkson Tower, 42nd and Dewey, Omaha. After the Service, there will be a social hour and dinner at the Storz Pavilion.
