North Bend, NE. Died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 near North Bend. He was born May 21, 1944 in Omaha, NE to LeRoy and Irene (Burdick) Bird, Sr. He graduated from Omaha South High School and married Barbara Lyle on January 12, 1969 in Omaha. He was a cook at Gorat's in Omaha and Farmer Brown's in Waterloo and in 1978 they moved to North Bend. He owned and operated the Rawhide Steakhouse in North Bend from 1978-2003 and 2005-2012. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to joke, enjoyed being around and visiting with people and especially loved being with his grandchildren. He was a great cook and well known for his chicken fried steak and gravy. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; sons, David Bird and wife Sara, Omaha, Robert Talbitzer and wife Roxanne, Kearney, Lyle Bird and wife Dana, Omaha; daughters, Barbie Bird Johnson and husband Michael, Omaha, Cathy Rider, Wichita, KS, Jenny Smithberg and husband Chris, Omaha, Melinda Miller and husband Curtis, Port Ludlow, WA; brother, John Bird and wife Chris, Omaha; sisters Danalee Teeters and husband Dan, Omaha, Jeanie McDonald, Belfair, WA; 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
MEMORIAL SERVICE 11am Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend. The Rev. Calvin L'Heureux will officiate. There will be NO VISITATION. Memorials may be directed to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Online condolences may be left at
