NEUHOFEN iM INNKEREIS, AUSTRIA >> Andreas "Andi" Vogelsberger, 18, a former Oneida Rotary Exchange student, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at his home, following a lengthy battle with a rare form of cancer.
Born on Aug. 10, 1994, Andi attended BG BRG Reid im Innkreis in Austria, but was a graduate of Oneida High School in 2011, where he lettered in soccer and volleyball. He was a Rotary Exchange Student in Oneida from August 2010 to August 2011.
Andi was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed sports, listening to and making music, travel and being with his friends. He generously used his "wish" from the Make-A-Wish Foundation to professionally record and produce a music video entitled "The Angel," to give hope to others suffering from cancer and to those who care for their loved ones suffering from terminal illness. Andi composed the lyrics and music for "The Angel" and played guitar, piano and sang backup vocals, to his brother Manuel's lead vocals. He thought he had many "Angels" in Oneida, and this song was also dedicated to them.
Surviving are his family, Andrea Kuprian-Farcher and Arnulf Farcher, Manuel Vogelsberger and Christian Vogelsberger, all of Austria; his girlfriend, Elizabeth Gruber of Austria, but a current Rotary Exchange Student in Doylestown, Pa.; his American "families" from Oneida, Greg and Kate Owens and their children, Will, Susan and Mary, Shane and Vicki McCarthy and their sons, Conor and Rory, Richard and Charlene Ano and their children, Nichole, Dale, Shawn and Dylan, and Michel and Cindy DeBottis and their children, Brian, Molly, Kevin and Shannon; and his special friends, Alison Patricia of Oneida and Johanna Freund of Austria and countless Oneida classmates and friends who will keep memories of Andi's kindness, humor, strength and courage forever in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life for Andi will be held 5 p.m., Saturday, March 16 at the First United Methodist Church, corner of Grove and Main Streets, Oneida. Friends may send condolence cards to Andi's family in Austria by bringing the cards to the service. The Oneida Rotary Club
will package and deliver them to Austria. Donations, in his memory, may be made to the Oneida Rotary Club for use in support of the Youth Exchange Program, or in support of the "Andi's Army"
Team (payable to the
), which is sponsored by Oneida Rotary.
