Joseph Cmaylo Obituary

VERONA >> Joseph Cmaylo, 92, Main Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, in the Extended Care Facility of Oneida Healthcare Center where he was a resident for the past two weeks.
Born in Durhamville, on April 14, 1922, he was a son of Jacob and Alexandra Ortynsky Cmaylo. A lifelong resident of the area, Joseph was a graduate of Verona High School, Class of 1942, and also received a bachelor of science degree from Oswego State College and his permanent certification from Syracuse University. He married Margaret Groff on June 10, 1946 in Rome. Mrs. Cmaylo died on Oct. 6, 2013.
Prior to retirement, Joseph was a teacher of industrial arts for the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill School district with 38 years of service.
Mr. Cmaylo was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church of Verona. He was a life member of the Verona Fire Department and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, E. Bart Hanifin Council No. 473. Joseph enjoyed golfing, where he achieved two hole in ones and was an avid pitch player.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and David Cowens of Raymond, Maine, Constance and Larry Carello of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Patricia and Douglas Blair of Naperville, Ill.; one son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Cheryl Cmaylo of Foxboro, Mass.; ten grandchildren, Katari and Anna Carello, Mary and Ogi Senic, Meghan and Victor deSturdze, Samantha and Joseph Gasbarro, Shanna and Chris Hoekstra, Jacob and Erica Blair, and Nicholas, Alexandra and Colin Cmaylo; and six great-grandchildren, Dakota and Easton Hoekstra, Savannah and Raelynn Hoekstra, Lucas Gasharro and Alexander Senic; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Julia Cartwright, Cecelia Mallett, and Estelle Schoeneck; five brothers, Walter T. Cmaylo, Michael Cmaylo, James Cmaylo, Emil Cmaylo and Alexander Cmaylo.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Verona, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Edmund Castronova, pastor. Interment will be made in Verona Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, 4-7 p.m., Tuesday. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Joseph and Margaret Cmaylo Scholarship c/o of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 63, Sherrill, N.Y. 13461. I knew Joe a little bit from when I went to VVS and when He and other parts of the family did business with Willsons'. He was alway ready with a hello. I am sorry about his passing, he will be missed greatly.
