Margaret L. "Peg" (Seitz) Maxwell(1925 - 2013)

ELLENTON, FLA. >> Margaret ""Peg"" L. (Seitz) Maxwell died peacefully on Dec. 18, 2013 at her home in Ellenton, Fla.
Born on Jan. 21, 1925 in Oneida, N.Y., Peg was the daughter of the late Frank and Rachael (Broad) Ray. She attended local schools and while growing up on the family dairy farm developed a love for the outdoors, nature and physical activity. She was a Girl Scout and band drum majorette. During World War II she was a dedicated defense worker at a glider factory in Oneida and Rome Army Air Base, Rome, N.Y. In June 1946 she married Joseph W. Seitz also of Oneida and they embarked upon a life together in Chicago, Ill. while he attended chiropractic college. After his graduation they moved to Corry, Pa. where for many years Peg assisted her husband with the chiropractic practice in both Corry and Union City, Pa.
During their years in Corry, they raised two sons and Peg contributed her talents in many benevolent activities in the area. This included as a Red Cross first aid instructor, Cub Scout den mother, helping to organize the Corry Area Arts Council and volunteering with the Corry . At the time of her death, she was a proud 41 year breast cancer survivor. Her love of the outdoors and activity was happily expressed as an avid golfer, an oil painter, swimmer, tennis player and cross country skier. A longtime member of the Corry Country Club, she won three President Cup tournaments, and at age 75 she was delighted to finally score a ""hole in one."" She was a member of Emanuel Episcopal Church, Corry, Pa., where she participated in many church activities and regional conventions.
Her husband, Joe Seitz, passed away in June 1988. In 1995, Peg married John Maxwell of Ellenton, Fla. and formerly of Oneida, N.Y. They had become reacquainted at their 50th high school reunion and were to be married for 17 years.
Margaret Maxwell is survived by her loving husband, John; her sister, Jane Sutherland, Westfield, N.Y.; her sons, James (Janet) Seitz of Jackson, Mich., and John (Suzanne) Seitz of Harmony, Pa.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Oneida, N.Y. in 2014. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Oneida. In memory of Peg, donations may be made to the and Corry Area Arts Council.
