Charles Ferguson Obituary

VERNON >> Charles D. "Chuck" Ferguson, 64, of Mt. Vernon Apartments, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Upstate Hospital, shortly after admission, as a result of an accident.
He was born in Rome on Jan. 31, 1950, the son of the late Carl J. and Gladys M. Clark Ferguson. Chuck graduated from Madison High School. Following high school, he joined the Army and was a trained airborne para trooper. While deployed in the military, he was involved in an accident that left him disabled. After the Army, he had worked a short time for Madison Silo.
Chuck enjoyed going to the local diners where he enjoyed the company of others at the coffee counter. He truly loved being on the family farm, where he grew up, which was now his brother John's home. Chuck loved the vast woodlands on the property. It would bring him peace to be close to nature and the animals, which the woods provided. He was a member of the Oriskany American Legion Post 1448. Chuck was a friend to all and will be deeply missed.
He is survived a son, Chad of Oriskany; a daughter, Jamie Lynn of Rome; his sisters, Mary I. Fanning of Waterville and Joyce (Paul) Cornelius of Deansboro; his brothers, John (Carol) Ferguson of Madison, and Frank (Eve) Ferguson of Oneida Castle; and a grandchild. Several nieces, nephews, and close friends also survive Chuck.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at the Madison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Lighthall, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Madison Cemetery. In keeping with Chuck's wishes there is no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.

I am very sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. God bless all of his family. I will treasure his friendship and will miss his presence. He will always be remembered for his good nature, sense of humor, spirt of caring and community and his tenacity for life. I always loved to talk about his old trucks, and his wood box. God will treasure his company as we have. I will take great comfort in knowing that Chuck and I will be together again. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I had the pleasure of knowing Chuck the past few years at the diner. I got to know him even better the past few months. He was always friendly. He would help you if you needed him. We would talk about God, Jesus and the bible. He seemed to me to have a heart for God! I will miss him! God bless all!
